The 2026 Techno293 and Techno293 Plus Asian Championships concluded at the National Sailing Centre in Langkawi, Malaysia, following four days of competition from 5 to 8 August.
The championship brought together 42 competitors representing seven nations: Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Chinese Taipei. The sailors completed an impressive programme of between 13 and 15 races, with 15 races sailed in Techno293 Plus, 14 in the U17 fleets, and 13 in both U15 and U13.
In Techno293 Plus Men, Thailand’s Suphachai Chueatathong captured the overall Asian title. Malaysia’s Muhammad Izzuddin Abdul Rani finished second overall and was the leading Open competitor, while Thailand’s Navin Singsart completed the overall podium.
Suphachai also became the Techno293 Plus U19 Men’s Asian Champion, ahead of his Thai teammate Suphachok Chueatathong in second and Malaysia’s Muhammad Haziq Naufal bin Abdullah in third.
Malaysia secured the Techno293 Plus Women’s overall title through Tengku Nurani Ezaty Tengku Khairudeen, who was also the leading Open competitor. Marcella Wilson Villaceran of Malaysia finished second overall, with Thailand’s Kornkanya Panthong taking third.
In the U19 women’s ranking, Marcella Wilson Villaceran claimed the title ahead of Kornkanya Panthong, while Tsai-Yi Chang of Chinese Taipei earned third place.
The Techno293 U17 titles went to Hong Kong’s Hoi Tik Ng in the boys’ fleet and Malaysia’s Angie Tan Ang Yee in the girls’ fleet. Thailand’s Ittipol Yomjinda and Malaysia’s Ammar Danish Khairul Azhar completed the boys’ podium, while Singapore’s Qi Shan and India’s Priyanshi Patil placed second and third respectively among the girls.
India dominated the Techno293 U15 categories. Udaiveer Singh Johal became the boys’ Asian Champion, followed by Om Baburao Korvi and Vihaan Prakash. Vaishnavi Vishal Kajale won the girls’ title, with Naavya Kaku finishing second.
The Techno293 U13 category was presented as a single overall championship. India swept the podium, with Vinay taking the title ahead of Rayhaan Godhwani and Asmi Sherekar.
The championship marked another important step in the development of Techno293 racing across Asia and provided valuable international competition for the region’s young windsurfers.
Attention now turns to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, taking place from 31 October to 13 November. It will be the first Olympic sporting event staged in Africa.
After Dakar, the Techno293 community will return to Asia for the next Asian Championships, held as part of the 46th Singapore Open from 27 to 31 January 2027 at Constant Wind Sea Sports Centre.
