LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA – 5 August 2026

The opening day of racing at the Techno 293 and Techno 293 Plus Asian Championships delivered a full and exciting programme at the National Sailing Centre in Langkawi.

A total of 42 sailors representing seven countries are competing across seven divisions: Techno 293 U13, U15 Boys, U15 Girls, U17 Boys, U17 Girls, Techno 293 Plus Men and Techno 293 Plus Women.

Set among the tropical scenery of the Langkawi archipelago, the venue provides a spectacular setting for this continental championship. Warm waters, green islands and Langkawi’s distinctive mountain backdrop welcomed the young windsurfers to Malaysia. The National Sailing Centre offers competitors direct access to an open and challenging racecourse, while Langkawi’s renowned hospitality makes the island an especially memorable destination for sailors, coaches and families.

The championship programme allows for a maximum of 15 races over four racing days. The event began at a fast pace, with four races completed for every fleet on the opening day. With one discard already coming into effect, consistency quickly became important.

Opening-day leaders

In the Techno 293 Plus Men, Malaysia’s Muhammad Izzuddin Abdul Rani produced an impressive series, winning three of the four races and ending the day with three net points. Suphachai Chueatathong follows on five points, while Navin Singsart holds third place on nine.

The Techno 293 Plus Women fleet is led by Malaysia’s Tengku Nurani Ezaty Tengku Khairudeen, who also recorded three race victories and carries three net points. Marcella Wilson Villaceran is second on six points, with Kornkanya Panthong third on eight.

In the U13 fleet, Fnu Vinay enjoyed a perfect opening day, winning all four races. Rayhaan Godhwani stands second, ahead of Asmi Sherekar in third.

The closest contest of the day came in the U15 Boys division. Om Baburao Korvi and Udaiveer Singh Johal are tied on four net points after sharing the race victories, with Korvi holding the overall lead on the tiebreak. Vihaan Prakash is third. In the U15 Girls, Vaishnavi Vishal Kajale won all four races to lead ahead of Naavya Kaku.

Hoi Tik Ng was another sailor to complete a clean sweep, taking four victories in the U17 Boys fleet and finishing the day on three net points. Behind him, Ammar Danish Khairul Azhar and Ittipol Yomjinda are tied on seven points, with Ammar holding second place on the tiebreak.

In the U17 Girls, Angie Tan Ang Yee recovered from second place in the opening race to win the next three. She leads with three net points, followed by Qi Shan on seven and Priyanshi Patil on ten.

With four races completed and plenty of racing still ahead, the opening day has already produced outstanding performances across the fleets. Conditions, consistency and tactical decisions will continue to test the sailors as the battle for the Asian Championship titles unfolds in Langkawi.
