The 2025 Techno 293 European Championship is almost in full swing in Ostia, Rome, welcoming 274 competitors from 16 nations. With seven divisions represented across different age categories, the shores of Italy have once again become a hub of youth windsurfing energy, diversity, and talent.

Opening Ceremony & First Impressions

The event officially kicked off two days ago with a warm Opening Ceremony in a stadium near the venue. Flags, smiles, and the sound of multiple languages filled the arena as sailors were welcomed by organizers, local authorities and windsurfing legends. The message was clear: this championship is not just about competition but also about community, growth, and friendship.

Practice Race: Demanding Preview

Yesterday, competitors had their first chance to test the waters during a practice race held in challenging conditions. With strong winds and powerful waves, one race area was set, allowing sailors to get a real taste of what Ostia has to offer. While tricky, the session provided valuable time to adapt to the venue and for teams to tune their gear under pressure.

Racing Delayed by Extreme Shore Break

Unfortunately, today’s scheduled races were called off due to massive shore break and strong winds, making it unsafe to launch or race. After assessing the situation early in the day, the unprecedented but unanimous decision to cancel racing on safety grounds was made. It marks the first time such a decision was taken so early in a day -emphasizing the priority placed on athlete well-being.

What’s Next

The forecast for tomorrow remains uncertain, and the Race Committee will assess the conditions in the early morning before deciding on racing. With the event running until Monday, there is still room for action and excitement ahead.

Despite the slow competitive start, the community spirit, professionalism, and optimism remain high in Ostia. Stay tuned for updates from the beach!
