At the Défi Wind, the world’s largest windsurfing gathering, the Techno 293 Class celebrated its 20 years of existence in style. Since 2005, this emblematic board has revolutionised learning and competition in windsurfing, becoming the essential stepping stone for thousands of young windsurfers worldwide.
A PROVEN DESIGN SERVING LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE
The Techno 293 was born from a simple but more relevant than ever vision: create a versatile board capable of accompanying young sailors from their first runs to high-level competition.
Initially designed as a learning board, it quickly became a reference platform for youth competitions.
“It’s a design that’s 20 years old and still in the game. And that’s huge. We can see today that the board works incredibly well. If we had to remake it, it wouldn’t be different,” comment Antoine Albeau, multiple world champion.
UNIQUE FRENCH TECHNOLOGY
Manufactured by TAHE in Vannes (formerly BIC Sport) using an in-house developed thermoforming process, the Techno 293 benefits from a “made in France” technology that’s unique in the world. This technique allows each board to be reproduced under identical
conditions, guaranteeing the sporting equity essential for one-design competition. For this anniversary date, the Techno 293 saw its graphic design evolve for a collector’s edition presented exclusively on the main stage of Défi Wind.
“We are practically the last manufacturer producing windsurfing boards in Europe. Our technology is unique. We are proud to have manufactured nearly 40,000 Techno boards and to see them sailing on waters around the globe,” explains Jacques Freydrich, Brand Manager at TAHE.
A FOUNDATION FOR CHAMPIONS
In addition to its impressive technical features, the Techno 293 has become an essential stepping stone for athletes aspiring to reach the highest levels of competition. Many current champions have honed their techniques and racing instincts on this platform before advancing
to Olympic classes.
“I started by doing training camps in Techno 293, it’s the most accessible platform to begin with. I loved the sensations,
the planing. It’s the ideal platform to start but also to compete at a high level. Everyone should start with the Techno,”
confides Jullian, French champion in Techno 293 who is preparing to participate in the World Championships this summer in Wales.
