Two more races were completed on the fifth day of racing in Singapore. No racing on day 4 (Saturday) and a lay-day yesterday meant the competitors would have been straining at the leash to get on the water today! [more] The boys were the first to start in variable, and shifty, winds averaging 10 knots, with gusts to 12 knots. It was another good day for Rafic Mayan (ISR), with a 1st and a 1st, enabling him to consolidate his position at the top of the overall rankings. Two 3rd places from Kieran Martin (GBR) moved him to within one point of the silver medal position. There were good performances also, with top 5 finishes, from Chaneui Kim (KOR) and Birkner Saubitet (ARG).

In the girls fleet Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam (THA) had a great day, recording two 1st places, moving her further ahead of her nearest rival, Naomi Cohen (ISR). Naomi’s 2nd place in race 7 keeps her in contention for a medal, despite a disappointing 8th in race 8 ! However sailor of the day was Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) with a 3rd and 2nd to boost her fight back after her OCS in race 6.

Congratulations to the ARG team – the only team to record a top 5 finish in both boys and girls races today.
