Techno celebrates its 20th anniversary in Pwllheli Worlds!

The major annual Techno 293 OD event takes place this year in Pwllheli, Wales, from August 16-23, for a World Championship that brings together 260 racers from 17 countries. A wild and magnificent setting, a warm welcome, a friendly opening ceremony, and summery weather conditions… all the ingredients are there to kick off a wonderful week of racing and celebrate the 20th anniversary of Techno.

This year, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the International Techno 293 Class, which has some of its roots in the United Kingdom. In 2009, when the Class was still very young, the World Championship, held on the country’s south coast, enjoyed a great success, with over 250 racers registered. Unprecedented! Since then, the class has grown and the British team has always been very present at all the major international events, with strong teams and great results in all categories. It was so only natural to celebrate this anniversary at the finest Welsh club with this 2025 World Championship.

Recently built, modern, and very spacious, the Pwllheli Sailing Club welcomed the 260 competitors in the best possible conditions. After several days of preparation, the opening ceremony with a traditional team parade and speeches by officials launched the event!

Three categories will compete for the coveted titles: the Under-13 (U13) class, which uses 5.0m2 or 5.8m2 rigs; the large Under-15 (U15) class, which sails 6.8m2; the Under-17 (U17) class, which sails 7.8m2; and the Techno+ class, which sails 8.5m2.

Pwllheli, an ideal bay for sailing

Located on the southern shore of the Llyn Peninsula, Pwllheli is both a seaside resort and a major sailing destination, hosting numerous international events. The bay is protected from the Atlantic’s heavy swells and bordered by lush green hills, steep cliffs, and white sandy beaches. This wild and magnificent setting will be the backdrop for the 15 regattas on the program.
