This year the Czech Supercup should originally have taken place on Nove Mlyny lake in May but, due to COVID-19, it was postponed to new dates from 4th to 5th July. The location was changed too. It was moved to Velke Darko lake to the competition that is part of Czech Cup and is named “Pohar Vysociny” – that could be translated as “Highlands Cup”. [more]In total there were 21 competitors in Raceboard class and 38 in Bic Techno. Unfortunately the new date was possibly not suitable for Hungarians. Instead we welcomed 7 surfers from Poland. 6 other sailors came from Slovakia.
On Sunday there was warm and sunny weather but the wind was blowing from south west that is not the ideal direction for the venue. The wind speed reached 3 to 5 m/s but it was shifting a lot. It was quite tricky to find the best way to get to the first mark. There were surprising situations and it was like playing poker. But the best competitors coped with such conditions like playing chess. Some races had to be abandoned due to insufficient wind. At the end of day one we finished 3 races in Raceboard and 2 in Bic Techno class.
The wind was a little bit better on Saturday. The direction was the same but it was stronger. We finished all 4 planned races. There were even planing conditions in the last 2 races, enjoyed by everybody.
Petr Kucera (CZE-15) was the winner of the Raceboard class. Local club member Radim Kamensky (CZE-110) finished in second place and Martin Pospisil (CZE-21) was third. The first place in Bic Techno belongs to Matej Stefaniciak (SVK-27). He was closely followed by David Drda (CZE-63) and Kristyna Chalupnikova (CZE-911) finished in third place.
There are 2 other upcoming events in the Supercup series – Hungarian on Balaton and Slovak on Domasa. Hopefully the plans will not be disturbed next year so we can meet our friends again.
