Last weekend, 7th and 8th May, Lake Domasa in East Slovakia hosted the first Supercup event of the 2016 season. 33 competitors from Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia sailed 7 races in 2 days. [more]
Part of the event was a long distance race (which counted as a single race towards the final results) where all non locals had a chance to explore the lake and see little bit more of the nice scenery that surrounds Domasa.
Challenging wind conditions on both days with planing and marginal planing races tested all the participants.
At dinner in the newly built restaurant next to the club after a hard day of racing on Saturday (3 races back to back plus the long distance after a one hour break) everyone had a chance to talk about the plans for the upcoming season in a friendly atmosphere.
In the Techno Class, the winner Richard Geiger was not concentrating on his first race which he lost to overall second placed Roland Szlavi and he was beaten in the last race by overall third placed Karolina Berankova who materialised her light wind performance into a bullet.
In the Raceboard Class only 10 points separated 2nd from 6th but at the top local hero and 3 times Olympian Patrik Pollak dominated the field with 7 straight bullets. But if we talk about Olympics, the coach of the Hungarian team in Domaša was Aron Gadorfalvi who will participate at his 6th Olympic Games this year in Rio. Both of these guys are working with the best Techno sailors in their countries sharing their knowledge and experience. Once Aron finishes his Olympic windsurfing career this year we all hope to see him racing with us next year as well.
Next stop of the Supercup series is his home lake of Balaton, from 10th to 12th June – See you there !!!
