Liepaja will be hosting the Formula Windsurfing European Cup and Baltic Cup Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Regatta this weekend.  Over three days from Friday to Sunday, the Latvian NeilPryde Baltic Cup will be held at Liepaja beach on the Baltic Sea coast, Latvia with competitors from Techno 293, RS:X, Formula Windsurfing, Raceboard and Formula Kite classes. [more]This marks the final event of the 15th annual Neil Pryde Baltic Cup regatta series for windsurfing classes, as well as European Cup regatta for Formula Windsurfing class and world ranking regatta for Formula Windsurfing and Formula Kite.


The organizers are expecting over 100 athletes from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, Russia as well as other countries. The starting list will include top racers like Formula Windsurfing world ranking leader Janis Preiss (LAT), well-known kiteboarder Viktoras Seputa (LTU), ruling Formula Youth World champion Tristen Erik Kivi (EST)  and 2014 Youth Olympic games participant Ketija Birzule (LAT).


The first start of the day will be given on Friday at 12 (GMT +3). On Saturday and Sunday, racing is scheduled to being at 11. A total of 15 races are planned for the regatta.


After the two events in Lithuania in May and Estonia in June, Latvian Janis Preiss is leading in Formula, followed by John Kaju (EST). In Techno 293 class leading is Latvian athlete Aleksandra Kaupa, followed by Namejs Dreimaris.  Raceboard leader after 2 events is Lithuanian Vytautas Celiesius, followed by Rets Skrickis (LAT).  Formula Kite class current leader is Viktoras ? eputa, followed by Ranno Rumm (EST) and RSX class leader after 2 events is Ketija Birzule (LAT), followed Valters Jekabs Zakrevskis (LAT).


The Neil Pryde Baltic Cup is the biggest international windsurfing and kitesurfing event in the Baltic states. The final Latvian event provides a great opportunity for experienced Formula, Raceboard class windsurfers and kitesurfers, as well as young Bic windsurfers, who are preparing and testing Liepaja racing conditions. [more]The following week, from July 27 to August 1st, Liepaja will host the 2015 Bic Techno European championship. A total of 300 competitors, from 26 countries are expected to take part in the European championship.
