Great conditions for day 2 of racing at the Techno 293 Windsurfing World Championship in Medemblik – 14 knots, sunny and prospects for 3 races for all groups and divisions.[more] It didn’t quite meet the expectations of “Super Wednesday” with the 16-26 knots forecast yesterday but, after a morning averaging 10-15 knots, gusts of up to 24 knots were recorded in the afternoon.


The girls fleets kicked off with two races each, back to back, with a third race later in the day. In the under 17’s 16 year old Marta Magetti (ITA 157) was unbeatable today with 3 race wins in her group and tops the leaderboard. The first discard comes into play and she has a perfect score of 3. No doubt Windsurfing Club Cagliari are cheering her on!


Over in the other group Russian Stefaniya Elfutina had a 1, 2, 3 and is now in third place overall. Elena Vacca (ITA 52) beat her to win first place in the second race of the day and Emma Wilson (GBR 961) took the bullet in the last race. Hadar Heller (ISR 659) one of yesterday’s u17 girls’ leaders has slid down to second place overall and the other, Chung Yuet Yee (HKG 32), has dropped down to fourth.

Dramatic change in the Techno girls under 15 fleet leaderboard as 13 year old Lucie Pianazza (FRA 20) came third in today’s first race then took two bullets, discarded her 11th from yesterday and has shot right up to the top! Lucine Bossard (FRA 166) won the first race of the day and has moved up to second place overall, just one point behind Lucie. Maya Moris (ISR 639) is comfortably third but with improving results those ahead need to watch out!


Three races in the Open fleet have seen the demise of Japan’s Iseda Megumi, now first lady in fourth position overall and the French dominate the top 3. Olivier Tuhault (FRA 863) winner of today’s second race, now heads the leaderboard but only 1 point ahead of Maxime Abrien who won the first of today’s races. Three points behind him is Julien Bouyer who won the last race.


More of a gentle shuffle of positions for the under 15 boys. Tom Monnet (FRA 320) consolidated his place at the top with a couple of wins, Antonino Cangemi (ITA 17) moved up to second from fourth with a win in his last race and Oleksandr Goncharenko maintained his position in third – although it would have been a different picture if he hadn’t been able to discard his last race of the day! Other winners today were Francisco Saubidet (ARG 40) although he has dropped to fourth overall, Lorenzo Geraci (ITA 6) who had a flash of brilliance in his first race of the day, and Henry Bloodworth (GBR 852) who won his last race of the day.


This competition is wide open in all fleets. If the wind delivers as it promises to, so many competitors right the way down the leaderboards have potential to be at the top. The next discard kicks in after 11 races so all to play for.
