Championship racing has begun in Medemblik on “warm up Tuesday” in sunshine and light winds. The aim was to have 3 races for each of the Techno fleets, [more]giving everyone plenty of time to rest in between – some 30 races in one day for the organisers to manage! But the forecast big thunderstorms and heavy winds later in the day meant close of play before the second round of races could be completed.

The u17 boys and girls were divided into two fleets. Angel Granda (ESP 260) who will be 15 on Sunday, stamped his authority over his fleet by taking two bullets. In the other fleet 14 year old Ofek Elimelech (ISR 612) took the first bullet and Michele Cittadini (ITA 38), aged 16, the second. GBR’s Daniel Wilson was consistent with two seconds and Tomer Blum from Israel had a second and a third.

Only one race was possible for each of the u17 girls fleets.  Chung Yuet Yee (HKG 32) who has just turned 16, and 16 year old Hadar Heller (ISR 659) were today’s winners.

The u17 fleet split will change daily until the final split into gold and silver fleets.

Over in the boys u15, 13 year old Francisco Saubidet (ARG 40) took the first bullet but a sixth in the second race puts him behind Tom Monnet, also 13, at the top of the leaderboard.  Nikita Prozorov (RUS 9) took the second win but as he didn’t have a particularly good first race he currently lies 16th overall.  He will no doubt be as keen as many in the rest of the fleet for plenty of championship racing to bring in the discards.  Ukrainian Oleksandr Goncharenko is third overall.

In the Open Fleet, men and women race together.  Iseda Megumi (JPN 35) tops the leaderboard after two races with a second and a first ahead of Olivier Tuhault (FRA 863) with a first and a second.  Maxime Abrien (FRA 235) is third overall with very consistent thirds.

RESULTS:

Boys under 17 after 2 / Boys under 15 after 2 / Girls under 17 after 1 / Girls under 15 after 1 / Open after 2

Forecast looks set for “Super Wednesday” with 20 knots under clear blue skies.
