The Gimli Yacht Club will host the 2012 CYA Youth National (U19) Sailing Championships from Tuesday, August 28 through Saturday, September 1st in Gimli, Manitoba. [more]
The CYA Youth National Sailing Championships is an annual event which provides training and competitive experiences for young and developing sailors over the age of 14. Competitors sail in the Laser 4.7, the Laser Radial, the 420, the 29er, and the BIC (windsurfing). The regatta will also include the Techno 293 Class Canadian National Championships.
The event provides professional development, mentoring and certification for coaches, race officers, judges, sport event organizers and volunteers and leaves a legacy at the host club with certified volunteers for all aspects of the sport. The 2012 regatta in Gimli also serves as a qualifier for the 2013 Canadian Youth Sailing Team from which the 2013 Worlds team will be selected. The 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship will be held in Limassol, Cyprus.
