The Techno 293 North American Championships had three more races today, Day 2, in excellent 6-15 knot conditions.[more]
The Mexican Team has 1,2 positions in the junior men’s Under 17 class with Ignacio Berenguer Lleonart leading the way. Importantly, only the top two countries (boys & girls) qualify for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this August. Currently, the second country to qualify in the junior men’s is Puerto Rico with Alejandro Monilor in third place overall.
Ian Stokes from USA is in striking distance in fifth place overall for that critical second country qualifying position.
Representing USA, Marion Lepert has a commanding lead in the junior women’s division, and is dominating the North American Championship. However, due to IOC eligibility requirements (she does not have her full U.S. citizenship), Marion is not eligible to qualify USA for the Youth Olympics. Therefore the top two qualifiers are Audrey Caron from Canada and Margot Samson from USA.
The future looks bright for USA in the Under 15 division with Rasmus Sayre (MA) leading the boys and Charlotte Samson (FL) leading the girls division.
Tomorrow the conditions are forecast to be a little lighter and the organizers hope for three more races to crown the North American Champions and see who qualifies for the Youth Olympic Games.
