After the disappointment of no racing on day 3 it was a relief to be greeted by more sun, but less wind and waves, on day 4 of the European Championship! Originally scheduled as a “reserve day”, full use was taken of a promising forecast to validate the championship for all techno fleets. [more] It was the first opportunity for the under 15’s to show their potential. Current world champion, Saskia Sills (GBR 956) heads the leaderboard after 3 races, ahead of Marta Maggetti (ITA 157) and twin sister Imogen Sills (GBR 561)
It is even closer in the boys fleet with just one point separating Michel Cittadini (ITA 38) from second placed Mattia Camboni (ITA 88).
The under 17 girls completed the first part of the days proceedings with a further 3 races, back to back. Cidane Humeau (FRA 6) had a perfect day with three firsts, which brought her within one point of overnight leader Lea mattei (FRA 161). Despite a poor race 4, by her standards, Hanna Idziak (POL 416) remains within striking distance of the leaders.
French sailors continue to dominate the Under 17 boys division, with the top 5 positions in the Gold Fleet. Gael Cousin (FRA 753) moves into pole position after a solid performance in the first day of finals, and despite a DNC in race 1 of the championship! However, there is very little to separate the following pack of french sailors, and it is all still to fight for.
